Inspiration

I just entered a YouTube contest where I could possibly win an Alexander Wang Lime Green Rocco green bag. You know, the famous bag with the gorgeous studs on the bottom? I had to leave a comment stating how i'd style the bag.  I actually got quite inspired to even make a little fashion board. Too bad it wouldn't let me post the picture :/ So I decided to post it here instead :) I hope I win! I'd love to have that bag in my collection. <333

It's my Birthday and I'll eat what I want to :)

Yesterday was my birthday and even though I didn't have a huge party or anything of an extravagant sort, I still enjoyed myself to the fullest. It's mostly due to the fact that I enjoyed a delicious dinner for two at a local known secret spot called Brenda's in SF, CA. San Francisco is known for its many restaurants and different choice of eats in the city, so naturally, my bf surprised me with a dinner to one of the best known spots in Sf. french-soul food is what Brenda's consists of. It's a delicious blend of New Orleans and France, both blended together to make the best comfort food there is. Even though this place is the only type of soul food I've ever tried, I must say, It's gonna be hard to compare to anywhere else. The setting is very intimate and they don't take reservations which I must say is a plus considering how small the place is. From I heard, they had actually expanded the place so It's much more roomy. I've also heard the wait can be a bitch but luckily the two times I've been there, I've not waited more than 5 min. The perks of going as double rather than a whole group is beneficial.  After we were seated, we were given a snack of cripsy black eyed peas which were seasoned with some spicy cayenne and brown sugar. YUM! Best way to start off your dinner. As appetizers,  we ordered the Oyster Flight, which is a plate of three different samples.  If you love oysters, and you love flavor, this is the sampler for you. They come broiled with their own twist. The first was covered in biscuit crumbs with bacon and scallions, the second was slathered in darkened BBQ sauce which I must say is my fave, and the last was spiced to perfection with cayenne butter and garlic sauce. My oh my, I swear I could have eaten 6 servings of those oysters. They have a lemon on the side and sea salt covering the plate so that you can add a little more flavor to your dish, which is amazing to think you can make these suckers even better tasting. I found myself wanting to drink the left over juices just to savor the flavor a little bit more. For entrees, I got the BFC (Brenda's Friend Chicken) and my boyfriend settled with the catfish. I know fried chicken doesn't sound so amazing, but you don't know friend chicken until you've tried Brenda's. You get a boob, a thigh and a leg, served with a biscuit and collard greens on the side. Oh, and some sweet pepper jelly for a delicious dip. The chicken is fried to a perfect crisp and the biscuit was fluffier than you can imagine. No utensils needed for this dish. Just your good ole  fingers you were born with. Seriously, don't bother with a fork, you're just missing out on the full glorious experience that is Brenda's french-soul food. You dip the chicken in the pepper jelly, throw it in your mouth and bite into that warm biscuit and it feels like you died and went to heaven food heaven. Follow up with some collard greens, take a chug of wine (because I'm a barbarian) and then repeat. If you're feeling like crap, go to Brenda's and stuff up on some good food cause you'll be feeling orgasmic in the midst. No man needed. But even if you just want good conversation, good freakin food, and a good old time, Brenda's is perfect for that too. I couldn't have asked for a better dinner. To follow up, we had some beignets for dessert. We got a plate of two. One filled with dark Ghiradelli chocolate, and one plain. We shared both and we once again died and went to heaven. Personally, I like plain beignets. I'm a carb fanatic and plain bread with powdered sugar sprinkled on top is the way to my heart. Plus, after eating so much, I didn't wanna order something and only eat it halfway. That's not what you do at Brenda's. You eat the whole damn thing. Also, my top wasn't very forgiving either. I wore the cutest black faux leather peplum top! It held everything in perfectly, but I thought i was gonna burst  through it at one one point lol. Still, no regrets. Again, best birthday dinner ever. I'd highly recommend hitting this little hole in the wall whenever you're up for something delicious. It's definitely on the pricey side so I'd advise you go for a special occasion, or if you're feeling adventurous. Now, I am starting to eat clean since I'm in the works of losing weight, but we're all entitled for a cheat day. What better day to choose than my birthday :) I chose the chicken too b/c of the protein, even though it was fried. But again, no regrets!
